DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Northern Illinois men's basketball head coach Mark Montgomery says he has suspended sophomore Abdel Nader for an unspecified number of games.

Montgomery announced Nader's suspension Friday, ahead of the Huskie's season-opening game against Nebraska-Omaha. He said Nader, a graduate of Niles North High School outside Chicago, violated team rules, but did not give specifics.

The 6-7, Nader averaged a team-best 10 points last season for a Mid-American Conference Huskies team that went 5-26 last season.

Montgomery said the school has "high standards for our student-athletes and unfortunately at the end of last season Abdel did not live up to those standards."

The coach said as a result of his action, Nader will be suspended from competition indefinitely.
