Rob Lowe went back to where it all started Friday when he visited Tulsa.

Back in 1982, Lowe celebrated his 18th birthday on the set of The Outsiders, a star-studded movie that was filmed in Tulsa. Thirty-five years later, he visited the sets with his sons, Matthew and John. He also introduced them to S.E. Hinton, who wrote the book the movie was adapted from.

Lowe and his sons also watched the Michigan State vs. Miami NCAA Tournament game Friday at the BOK Center. Lowe said he’s working on a project in Tulsa, though he said he wouldn’t reveal what it is about until Monday.

Lowe said Tulsa holds a special place in his heart.

“I didn’t go to college, I went to Tulsa,” he said. “I left home and this is where I came. I did the movie here and I did a movie after that and a movie after that and a movie after that, and that brought me to where I am today. So I have really great, fond memories about my time here.”
