Give credit to Rick Pitino, Steve Alford, Shaka Smart and Tom Crean for all having a sense of humor.

It’s been chaotic in Portland with the firing of NBA coach Nate McMillan on Thursday. So Trail Blazers’ beat writer Matt Calkins (@blazerbanter) of The Columbian in Vancouver, Wash., decided to have a little fun Friday and see if any of the coaches are intested in taking the job.

Rick Pitino: “Yeah, I really want the job. I'd really like to get out here. The weather has just knocked me over, and I really would like to start losing again. I'm dying to coach.”

Steve Alford: “That one came out of left field. I've just been watching tape on Louisville. I didn't know anything had even happened with the Trail Blazers.”

Shaka Smart: “A couple of the fans last night after our game asked me that. It's unfortunate that in this business there's so much change in coaching, and Nate McMillan is a phenomenal coach. But I guess in the NBA that's commonplace for during the year coaching jobs to change hands.”

Tom Crean: “We leave the declarations of not being involved in jobs to John Calipari, not me. I told him I was going to say that. I talked to him today. We were sharing notes. I say that in complete jest, and with respect.”

Looks like Portland will have to turn elsewhere.
