GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — University of Great Falls guard Marcel Towns has been named the NAIA Division I men's basketball player of the week.

The junior from Tempe, Ariz., broke a 42-year-old school record by scoring 43 points in UGF's 73-71 win over then-No. 18 Westminster College. He followed that with 15 points and eight rebounds in the Argos 71-59 loss against Montana Western.

Towns earned back-to-back Frontier Conference player of the week honors.

Montana Western junior Sammi Bignell of Avon was named the Frontier Conference women's basketball player of the week for games played Jan. 7-13. She scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 65-50 win over the University of Great Falls. Bignell tallied six points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a 75-49 win over Montana State-Northern.
