Some fans paint their face. More daring ones paint their chests.

One Tar Heel paints her teeth.

Michelle Mottinger, a dentist from Greensboro, N.C., who earned both her undergrad and dental school degrees from North Carolina, was sporting a baby blue smile at the national championship game.

Also, each of her front eight teeth had a different letter on it in a darker shade of blue, spelling out T-A-R-H-E-E-L-S.

"It's a mouth guard," Mottinger said as she couldn’t stop smiling all blue. "My dental assistant at work made it for me. She painted it for me, back in '98."

Mottinger said it’s the fifth national title game that she has attended, the fourth with the special teeth.

"I only wear them for the big events like this, the Final Four, the ACC tournament, you know, March Madness,” she said.

She said the Tar Heels have only won one title with her in the stands, but she thinks the mouth guard will bring good luck.

"I'm hoping it has some good vibes left in it," she said.
