LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — David Minaya scored 16 points to lead Liberty in a 63-58 victory over Gardner-Webb on Thursday night, sealing the sixth straight win for the Flames in the all-time series.
Brothers Jesse Sanders and John Caleb Sanders added 12 points apiece for the Flames (9-15, 4-8 Big South Conference), who have now won back-to-back games for the first time since December. John Caleb knocked down four 3-pointers for Liberty, which was 6 of 13 from long range (46.2 percent) in the win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were just 4 of 17 from beyond the arc (23.5 percent).
In a close game throughout, Gardner-Webb held a 35-33 advantage midway through the second half. But consecutive jumpers by five different Liberty players fueled a 14-2 run and they cruised from there.
Tashan Newsome scored 21 points to lead Gardner-Webb (10-14, 5-7), which has lost two straight games and five of six.
