WASHINGTON (AP) — Mike Muscala scored 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to help Bucknell pull away late in a 55-50 victory over American University on Thursday night.

The double-double was Muscala's fourth straight against the Eagles as the Bison (21-8, 11-2 Patriot League) extended their winning streak over American (18-10, 9-4) to six games.

Bryson Johnson added 11 points for Bucknell, which snapped a two-game skid and edged closer to securing the regular-season conference title.

Lehigh, a game behind the Bison, visits Army to close the regular season, while Bucknell hosts Navy on Saturday.

Daniel Munoz scored 15 points for American, which fell to third place in the conference race when a win would've pulled the Eagles into a three-way tie for first.

Troy Brewer added 13 points for the Eagles, but leading scorer Charles Hinkle, who came in averaging 19.1 points per game, had a season-low three.

Down by as much as 10 early and two at halftime, Bucknell took its first lead of the second half when Johnson hit a 3-pointer from the right to make it 33-32 with 13:25 to play.

From there, neither team led by more than two until Bryan Cohen, Johnson, and Cameron Ayers hit 3s in succession, the last two off Muscala's kickout passes, to stretch it to 50-40.

Munoz responded with 3 on the other end, and pulled American within five, at 51-46, a couple of possessions later on a pair of free throws.

But with two chances to close to within a possession, Hinkle missed an open mid-range jumper and Muscala blocked Munoz's attempt to help the Bison see things out.

Muscala finished a point short of his season high of 27. His career high, 33, also came against the Eagles.

Hinkle, who scored 12 at Bucknell in a 67-61 loss on Jan. 25, hit just one of his nine field goal attempts.
