Rick Gano joined The Associated Press in Charleston, W.Va., in 1982, transferred to Milwaukee in 1987 and moved to Chicago in 1994. He worked eight years in newspapers prior to those assignments. He covered Julius Erving's final NBA game in 1987 and Michael Jordan's baseball career, his return to the NBA, his second retirement and the Chicago Bulls' second three-peat. At age 59, Gano is so old he covered current West Virginia coach Bob Huggins when he was a player for the Mountaineers, Terry Francona when he played for the Milwaukee Brewers and Tito Horford (father of the Atlanta Hawks' Al Horford) when he was with the Bucks. In the past seven years, he's seen the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup, the Chicago White Sox capture the World Series and the Chicago Bears return to the Super Bowl.
