MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Montana men's basketball coach Wayne Tinkle has been honored by fellow coaches as the National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division I District 6 coach of the year. Montana made its second trip to the NCAA Tournament in three seasons after winning the Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Griz posted a 25-7 record and took a school record 14-game winning streak into the NCAA Tournament, where they fell 73-49 to Wisconsin. Tinkle says bringing the Big Sky Conference tournament back to Missoula was probably the thing that made him the most proud this season. He also was named the Big Sky Conference coach of the year. Montana guard Will Cherry and Weber State guard Damian Lillard received first team all-District 6 honors from the NABC.
