ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Matt Dickey scored 16 points and Jaron Lane tallied a double-double to lead UNC Asheville, which has already clinched the regular-season Big South Conference crown, to a 71-61 win over Gardner-Webb on Thursday night.

Lane had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Jeremy Atkinson added 13 points for UNC Asheville (20-9, 14-2), which snapped a two-game slide in the wake of a six-game winning streak that saw the team clinch first place in the conference.

UNC Asheville led from wire to wire in this one, opening on a 21-9 run to take a five-point halftime advantage. The squad outscored Gardner-Webb 41-36 in the second half to seal it.

UNC Asheville outrebounded Gardner-Webb 38-31, and forced them into 18 turnovers.

Tashan Newsome had a game-high 33 points to lead Gardner-Webb (12-18, 6-10), which has lost six of its last eight.
