CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Seth Tuttle had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Johnny Moran added 16 points — including four 3-pointers — and Northern Iowa rolled to a 78-63 victory over Illinois State on Saturday night.
Marc Sonnen chipped in 12 points and Chip Rank had 10 for the Panthers (17-10, 7-8 Missouri Valley), who rode their hot long-range shooting to the win. Northern Iowa was 12 of 21 from 3-point range but just 13 of 29 from inside the arc.
Bryant Allen led Illinois State (18-10, 8-7) with 17 points, and Jackie Carmichael had 14 points and 13 rebounds. Carmichael was coming off an 18-point, 20-rebound performance in his last game.
Northern Iowa shot 54 percent from the field, including 8 of 11 on 3-pointers, in the first half and took a 40-34 lead into halftime. The Panthers cruised from there.
The loss denied ISU's Tim Jankovich his 100th victory as Redbirds coach.
