Bob Baum, a 1973 graduate of the University of Oregon, has worked for The Associated Press since 1975, the first 23 years based in Portland, Ore., and the last 13 in Phoenix, Ariz. His first major sports assignment was Portland's Bill Walton-led NBA champions of 1977. Baum has covered more than 1,000 NBA games, the NBA Finals, the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, numerous Fiesta Bowls and two BCS title games.. Baum worked at every Summer Olympics from 1984 to 2008, as well as at three Winter Games. Other assignments included two Super Bowls, the memorable New York Yankees-Arizona Diamondbacks World Series in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, and world track and field championships in Paris, Helsinki, Edmonton and Osaka. His most difficult assignment was the summer-long saga of disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding 20 years ago. He and his wife, Leah, live in Surprise, Ariz.
