Howard Fendrich

Howard Fendrich is one of the AP’s pro football writers and its main tennis writer, reporting annually from Wimbledon, the French Open and U.S. Open. He has worked for the AP at the Super Bowl, NCAA tournament, Olympics, Tour de France and soccer’s World Cup and regularly covers a wide range of sports, including basketball, baseball, hockey, track and field, and Alpine skiing. Fendrich began his AP career as an intern in the Rome bureau in 1993, reporting on everything from film director Federico Fellini's declining health to Serie A soccer, and began writing about various sports around Italy and Europe the next year. He moved to the AP's headquarters in New York in 2000 to cover the sports TV industry, then transferred to Washington, D.C., in 2005. Fendrich grew up in Wisconsin, Connecticut and Maryland, and earned a B.A. in philosophy and political science from Haverford College. He and his wife have two sons.
