Some Tobacco Road history was made Saturday – though not the kind bluebloods Duke and North Carolina want to remember.

The Blue Devils and Tar Heels both lost home games on the same day for the first time since 1973.

And the schools’ neighborhood rival North Carolina State played a part both times.

The Wolfpack got things started Saturday by beating 10th-ranked North Carolina 95-91 in overtime at the Dean Smith Center. Immediately after that, 8 miles up the road in Durham, second-ranked Virginia topped No. 4 Duke 65-63.

The last time it happened was Feb. 21, 1973, when N.C. State beat Bucky Waters’ Blue Devils and Miami of Ohio beat North Carolina.
